Family Portraits
Hi There!
So, family sessions are awesome! Everyone knows each other, and there are usually inside jokes and/or jokes at others’ expense (in good fun, of course). This makes for some super genuine smiles and laughter that we can capture! Overall, family portraits are a really fun reason to get everyone out of the house and get together, plus, you then have something you can look back on and remember for years to come.
I am happy to get specific photos throughout the shoot, you just have to let me know. For example, there are times where we need to get just mom and baby, then dad and baby, maybe one of just the kids, then just the parents. Maybe grandma and grandpa need a few shots with the baby or grandkids, etc.
The more people we add to the fun, the more options we have for these types of specific photos, and they end up being everyone’s favorite part of the shoot!
Here are some tips I have come up with to help your day go smoothly!
It might be a good idea to bring a change of clothes, especially for the kids, just in case there is an accident.
don’t do anything too drastic right before the shoot (new style of haircut, color, piercing, etc.) You want this day to be remembered for the fun and good photos, not the, “Ugh, I can’t believe I got stuck with that hair for these pictures…”. you will end up not liking them since you didn’t like that haircut or whatever!
Simple outfits are always best. You don’t want to be wearing 5 crazy fabrics or patterns, as it just won’t look the best in photos. Black, white, neutral, with the occasional pop of color is great, but try to steer clear of a ton of crazy colors or patterns so you’ll love your set of photos for years to come!
Relax… It can be a little scary being in front of the camera. Just breathe and relax your muscles. This will help you look as natural as possible. No one wants to look like they are there against their will and smiling through it. Deep breath, let it out, relaaaax… We can always take a break to shake it all out! (super helpful for the kiddos when they are too jittery)
Have fun! We are all there to have a good time and to capture some cool shots! If we miss that shot, no worries, we will get it in a sec. The key is to just relax and have a good time. The 30 min or 60 min sessions are a lot longer than you think, so don’t stress that we don’t have enough time. We have plenty.
On that note, if you don’t want to finish the hour (usually it is more than enough time) we can always cut it short, more than likely, we will get the main shots in the first half of the session and then if there are any specific shots you would like, that will be shot in the second half.
Looking forward to it!!!
